This “work in progress” for 200 spectators is performed in-situ, in museums, unusual locations, and theaters. The audience is in close proximity to the artists. The stage is lit using the natural light of the venue. This creation is the prelude to a work centered around Bach’s Cello Suites.

Sonia Wieder-Atherton undeniably holds a unique place in today’s musical landscape. Born in San Francisco and trained in Paris and Moscow, she is above all a tireless researcher for whom creation knows no boundaries. Breaking down assumptions, transcending borders and labels—these are the key principles for Sonia Wieder-Atherton, who has always aspired to “make music a language open to the world.” Her playing and her style give the cello a sound close to the human voice, filled with powerful and authentic emotions.

Alongside Shantala and under the collaborative eye of Stéphane Ricordel, they offer an improvisation on a Bach suite, the first stone of an upcoming performance.

This exploration is born from the meeting between cellist Sonia Wieder-Atherton, Indian and contemporary dancer Shantala Shivalingappa, and director Stéphane Ricordel.
